How to Make Live Gift Toppers
Share
The true gift one can give during the holiday season is being able to share happiness + joy with the ones we love!
We were so blessed by all of those who came out to our Holiday Joy Event last weekend at Inherit Clothing Co.! We offered free gift wrapping with purchase and a tutorial on how to make your own live gift toppers. We love the look of all things natural around the holidays -- especially live greens!
As you're finishing up your gift wrapping this weekend, we wanted to offer a little inspiration to give your gifts a special touch while keeping it classic, simple + affordable.
Instructions
1. Hunt + Gather
You’ll need:
-
Floral wire
-
Wire cutters
-
Ribbon
-
Scissors
Visit your local craft store for supplies, if you don’t have them already around the house! You will also need to collect greens + berries—you can forage in your surrounding area if you live somewhere where they are available, or visit your local florist. We suggest a variety of greens and our favorites are cedar, eucalyptus and peppercorns!
2. Trim + Arrange
Trim your greens into small sprigs about 6 inches or less. Layer greens to create a small swag type shape with 1-3 pieces of greens/berries leaving at least 1/2 inch stem on each piece to wrap floral wire.
3. Secure
Wrap the stem with floral wire at least 1/2 inch from the base of the stem until all greens feel secure together.
4. Finishing Touches
Select your favorite ribbon that coordinates with your wrapping paper and tie it around the floral wire at the base of your topper.
Tips:
-
Be sure to size your topper appropriately for the gift package you will be using it on.
-
Keep it as simple or decorated as you like. The natural beauty of the greens speaks for itself. so don't feel like you have to get fancy if simple + classic is more your style. There is no right or wrong way to create a live gift topper!
-
When attaching your gift topper to your package, you may need to use tape. You can also leave a space in your ribbon so that you can thread ribbon through and wrap around the package to secure as well!
We wish you + yours a joyful holiday!
